This is a great little meat market! They make delicious pork sausage, boudin, bacon wrapped jalapeños, and other meats. They make quality foods.

Best Boudin In AUSTIN, TX!! Well... technically from Louisiana, but I get it or have it brought to me in Austin, Texas! Seriously. No joke. I am from Southeast Texas and have most of my family all through Cajun Country.. so boudin is something you first learn to eat when you are a baby... so I can tell you that this is the best in Austin (technically when it's here at my house) :-) If you get the chance to come here from Austin or other parts, come and try the smoked boudin. It is some of the THE BEST around. When I (or my family or friends) come here, we ensure to buy a few pounds that can survive the trip and not be eaten. These are the things I look for in great boudin: - smoked flavor (if its smoked of course) - snap of the casing - good blend of the meat and ingredients - good balance of the ingredients - NOT dry - good rice - the simple fact that when you taste/eat it, it stays on your tongues taste buds throughout the process so you enjoy it all the way through Gillis grocery has all the criteria that I want or need for great boudin. It is a long drive from the Texas state line, but if you need to come out and visit this little area of the store.. do it and bring back a lot for yourself and others. I can also attest to the fact that they smoke it so well, when you are done, you have that great smoked flavor and smell on your fingers.. NOW THAT IS GOOD SMOKING!! Overall, I like many types of Boudin and everyone does their's in their own special way. When I am around here I go for Gillis. As a note, it freezes well and maintains it's flavor for the trips you take.. even all the way back to Austin, Texas.. where I still proclaim it is THE BEST around! Now go getcha some! Cest Bon!

Okay I will keep with the 5 Star Rating being this little store on 171 "The Gillis Curve" has been around as long as I can remember it's truly a iconic fixture and known by everyone who lives or who has lived anywhere in the surrounding area. I too have eaten the boudin and it's not bad in saying that boudin made the old fashion way is getting harder and harder to find and there are very few places that has the original recipe or uses the ingredients or goes through the trouble to do it right. But you can still get the "Perfect Cajun Lunch" here a yard of boudin and a six pack of beer

Lots of places all along the highways and interstates of Louisiana boast about their boudin, but highway boudin reminds me of johnsonville brand brats...sad sad sad. Now, that being said if you are lookin for good tasso and boudin then follow the by-ways o' my children to gillis grocery where the smoked boudin thrills your taste buds with the song of quality hog and red pepper and your pot likker is saved by tasso straight from heaven. Don't forget a glass bottle of Barq's rootbeer to sip on while eating your link of boudin with one arm out the window of your pickup, cruisin down those endless Louisiana by-ways...

i love this place, it's in my blood. when i was a little girl, my mom worked there and we lived in the trailer park down the road, and now i pass it every time my husband and i go visit my father. i stock up on tasso, smoked boudin and sausage when we go visit-it's like taking a little bit of home with us. there's absolutely nothing on earth like the boudin from this place-it's hearty, never too greasy, spicy as hell, and always very fresh and cleanly prepared.
